A speeding car recently hit another vehicle and then careened into a bus stop full of people, causing the death of one woman and critical injuries to two other women, according to Miami Gardens Police (MGP). In all, six people were injured in the fatal pedestrian crash in front of a CVS Pharmacy near Northwest Street and Second Avenue.
A spokesman for the police said that the driver of a speeding white car was trying to avoid a black Nissan that had stopped in front of him when he overcompensated, struck the Nissan, and veered into the bus stop full of people.
A witness told the Miami Herald, “He didn’t even brake, he didn’t skid, he went right through them.”
Other witnesses described a scene of carnage in which one screaming victim was trapped under the car and another was knocked some 20 feet away by the impact of the collision.
The three most critically injured people were rushed to Jacksonville Memorial Hospital. A 48-year-old woman had to have both of her legs amputated and another 44-year-old woman suffered severe head trauma. Sadly, an 83-year-old woman died of her injuries at the hospital.
Two teens suffered multiple bone fractures and were taken to a hospital in Broward. There was no word as to the condition of the last victim.
The driver was taken into custody but had not been charged pending a police investigation into the accident.
